A nursing degree is a big plus. A lot of nurses who wanted a career change become Flight Attendants.
There are two advantages. First it’s obvious, having a nurse in the crew when a passenger becomes ill. The second is that nursing is great public-contact work, in fact, under even worse circumstances. Nurses not only know medicine but are usually very good at handling stressed, upset and sick people.
Nurses also have to work as a team in much the same way a crew works together.
In the early days, airlines required that Flight Attendants were nurses. That criteria has long been dropped but continues to be a big plus when applying.
I liked working with nurses on the crew. My mom’s a nurse and I found them to be very level-headed and good under pressure.
If you’re going for the interview, tell them that you’re looking for a career change where your nursing skills will still come in useful, that you enjoyed the team-aspect to your job and that you like working with the public. One nurse told me she liked the fact that passengers were all awake and usually well, as oppposed to the patients she had previously dealt with.
Good luck!

Thats how it was a very long time ago. It was required then. Now its a plus Im sure but its not there priority. There are many things they look into during the hiring process. Safety is every airlines number one priority, but safety doesnt necessarily always mean medical. Are you going to be able to think fast enough on evacuation drills and know where your supposed to be during an emergency evacuation? Basically it wont hurt to have but its not a 100%
