I will be transferring to nursing school in about one year and the admissions counsler advised me to begin volunteering to increase my chances of getting in. Where could I go. besides the obvious hospital?

Volunteer first aid squad (may want you to become an EMT - but this is a good thing)
    Volunteer with mentally challenged persons
Volunteer your time with the handicapped - such as foundation for the blind
or maybe in a nursing home doing activities with the seniors. When i was in college we would go in every other week and give the ladies “manicures” - they loved it!

One good place to start would be to sign up for a CNA course at an assisted living facility. This is generally a 2-4 week class and the cost is minimal, if not free. Most facilities will hire you once you complete the course. The pay ***** but the work is gratifying and your nursing program will usually give you credit towards your entrance exam for being a CNA.

Your local Health Department or free clinic might have a position for a volunteer.

As strange as it might seem, besides a hospital, there aren’t many positions available for volunteers that will give you experience in the medical field. A lot of this has to do with malpractice. While you might not like the idea of hospital work, there are numerous departments you could work in that would give you points on your entrance exam.

If you have some experience already in the medical field, I would advise you to look into a private practice. They love free labor.

    Hope this helps.
