How do you go about becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in a meternity ward?

When becoming a nursing assistant, do you only need to take a certificate program? Also how much does a nursing assistant usually make? If i was toget a job at a materity ward, would i just apply to the hospital once i get my degree/certificate?

Do any of you work in the maternity ward as a nursing assistant? What do you do? Do you work with the babies at all?

    A hospital is probably not going to hire you right after you get a CNA certification. You will need experience or a very impressive resume.A nursing home will though….

    You have to gain experience before you can start to move up and suggest areas you’d like to work, its highly unlikely that they’ll let someone with no experience work in a maternity ward

    To become a CNA you need a certified program, usually lasts about 3 weeks or so. CNA usually make around 10-11 per hour depending on the institution, some will offer as high as 17-18 dolars per hour. Once you get your certification, then you can applied at any institution of your convinience. I do not work in the maternity ward, but I know classmates that do and yes, they do get to work with babies, though I am not sure of how involvement they have.

    Certified nurse assistant trainning is about 2 months part time or two weeks full time in most places. I haven’t personally seen any CNA in the maternity wards I’ve been to. RNs usually do everything. Dealing with babies and pregnant woman is delicate and most likely only people that are highly skill are hired for that department.

    If you really like babies, you can probably try working in a day care.

    apply for an open job -check the local hospitals in your area. submit an application and resume.

    You might see if local hospitals offer training as a patient care assistant. If they train you, you are more likely to be hired on at that institution, and it just depends on if there is an opening on a maternity ward. Most likely, you would be helping new moms get up and about after giving birth, making sure they don’t pass out in the bathroom, making beds, passing meal trays, taking vital signs and so forth. It would be highly unlikely that you would be taking care of any newborn babies. The pay will vary with where you are located, but generally the benefits are very good.
