I am currently taking the prerequisites required for the nursing program at a community college. I was just curious as to if it would even be possible to keep my full time job and attend the nursing program? I live on my own so there is really no way I could quit my job and just wanted to hear from people that may have been able ot pull it off..Thanks!

I am in an accelerated associates degree program and am working full-time. I go to classes at during the week and do my clinicals both weekend days. It’s a lot of work and I am going 7 days a week with no breaks or time off. But, I only have to do this for 16 months and then I’ll be done.

You need to find a program that does night classes (assuming you work during the day) and just committ yourself to being extremely busy until you graduate.

I went to school full time and worked full time. I am also a certified surgical technologist, I worked 3-11 and went to school in the day time. Was it hard, absolutely. If we were not busy in surgery I could study during down time, plus I had the other nurses and doctors to help me when I needed help on my studies. My course was not accelerated. Where I live you can only go into the accelerated program if you have a degree in something else. My niece went to the accelerated program here, she told me there was no way she could have worked while attending school. In fact the school discourages working while in the accelerated program.

    Good Luck and Take Care!

Yes it is possible. I did it myself. The only thing is you need to find an employer willing to work with you. When you are in nursing school, everything else centers around the nursing program because it is so systematically structured. Good luck. We need more nurses.
