First of all I am in 9th Grade and I’m thinking about becoming a nurse after high school. I know that there are many feild to nursing (registered nurses, nurse anestists, cna, lpn, ect.), so I would like somemore information on them. What I would like to know is the amount of schooling required (I will be going to school in michigan so if you could name some colleges / universities and their programs that would be wonderful), a description of the nursing position, how much money they make on average, anually in the Detroit Area, and how much money they make on average, anually in the New York Area. Please feel free to add more, as it would be appresiated. Thank you.

well i suggest you do the r.n program and then eventually you can become a n.p if you chose. to become a r.n you can do a 2 year program and get your associates in nursing or you can do a 4 year program and get your bachelors in nursng. the difference between an associates degree nurse and a bachelors degree nurse is probably a couple thousands but thats it. i dont know about michigan but in ny you can make probably between 58000-75000 anually and with overtime it can be more
well study hard and keep those grades up. good luck

I just graduated with my BSN in 12/06. It took me many years, (I will be having my 15th year class reunion) because it was very difficult and required alot of time! I am so glad I did it, and you will be too! At your age, I would go for the gusto, and get the BSN. A college degree will never serve you wrong. I have also heard that the Univ. Of Michigan has one of the best BSN programs in the country. Study hard, and keep your chin up, for if you follow through with your dreams, you will have a most rewarding career for the rest of your life.

I did hear that U of M has a great Nursing program. If you are worried about the expense, definitely start out at a Community College, the tuition is cheaper and you can get an Associates Degree in Nursing and then get a job and continue your education. Some employers will have tuition reimbursement.
I know that Macomb Community college has a Nursing Program and so does Oakland Community College. They are not easy to get into. It is a selective process. You need good scores on you Compass Test, which is the college entry test. You will also need a very good GPA. Then you will need to take a HESI test and score well on that too. So, study hard, get good grades, pay attention to Math, Science, and English.
You can go to and there is a wealth of info on what they require.
I have a friend who just completed her Assoc. at OCC and she tried to get into MCC and did not make it. There are about 600 applicants and 200 openings for the program. You can do it!! Make sure you consider applying for more than one program.
