i am currently thinking of becoming a nurse, but i heard that it involves a lot of work and nurses are not appreciated, so i have decided to go to college for 4yrs , and then take another two year course to become a nurse anaesthetic, i will like to know if specialising in an area of nursing entails taking less crap from patients and more respect from doctors, patients e.t.c, i will also like to know if it is as stressfull as working as a regular nurse ?????????

Before you can take the nurse anesthesist master’s program you have to be an RN. So your 4 year degree must be a nursing one. Less stressful? Maybe to you but- knowing you could make a slight error and put someone to sleep permanently would not be to me.

You would need to be an RN first. So the 4 years must be in nursing. You will have to be completely devoted to homework and studying. I am an RN and it was not easy to do. I would not want to be in the operating rm all day giving meds. I liked what I did, taking care of sick people, even tho the recognition is not always there, the money is good. Problems are usually working every other weekend, many many holidays, and all shifts, sometimes in the same week. Not to mention forced overtime. But I got used to that, you could always find another job in nursing, like a drs office for practically no money.

Nursing does involve a lot of hard work, you have to do a 3 or four year course which involves clinical placement and classroom work, lectures, seminars, doing exams, coursework, writing essays and doing presentations. It involves a lot of research, background study and long hours. It takes a lot of committment and effort. Nurses are appreciated by the patients generally, but not by the organisations that they work for, they can be really taken for granted and overworked.
My best friend is an anaesthetic nurse and really enjoys her work, she didnt like the hectic nature of the wards and decided to specialise. She loves the fact that she is only dealing with one patient at a time and can concentrate on one job at a time. She works in a small close-knit group and seems to have the respect of the doctors and surgeons. And she certainly looks less stressed than I do!!
