I am nursing my daughter… I thought I could get away with my regular bra but I see the error of my thinking! :) What are some good things and some bad things to look for?

I would get a very good support one with no underwire. Everytime I wore one with underwire I got a ****** lump or something. The night time ones are good too. I wish you luck and I am so glad you are nursing her. Don’t give up.

TRY IT ON! Seriously, this is a must. If you can, take something into the dressing room with you to simulate the weight and size of the baby. (Don’t use your actual baby because you might accidentally ‘drop’ him) While holding the make-shift baby, try un-hooking the snaps to pull the flap down. How hard/easy is it? Could you do it while your baby was squirming and screaming? Now try to pull it back up and snap it back in place? Too tricky? Try a different bra. Once you find one that’s easy to “use”, wiggle around and stretch to make sure it stays in place comfortably. This may all sound silly, but its what I did and my nursing bras are “perfect” while I listen to other women complain about how uncomfortable or “tricky” they are. I hope this helps.

It should give you good support, first of all. When your ******* are full of milk, they can get heavy! LOL! I found that the kind which unhook at the top and fold down work well. Good luck, and congratulations on your new baby!

Always get cotton! It’s really comfortable. I used to use this one [Linked below]. It’s just like the regular bras. I loved it because I didn’t see any difference on how my ****** look in these compared to the regular bras. Some nursing bras make your ******* look disfigured when you wear a regular tee. But this one was just perfect.

    Plus it’s inexpensive!

I think that is a very good idea to wear a nursing bra its easy assesible for the baby and you dont hsve to walk around with wet spots on your blouse

COMFORT! No wires. I bought a few nursing bras but found for ME that sports bras works better and kept them bad boys from jiggling and being sore.

Cotton, good support and no underwire! If you end up sleeping in it the wire is very uncomfortable. Extra bit of soft padding on the shoulder strap made a big difference too. I didn’t have much to spend on one so I ended up at Walmart. They cary the most variety of brands and they are cheap enough to experiment with till you know what you are looking for and then go get a really nice version of it online somplace. Good luck with nursing.

I have used sports bras the entire time because they give good support, but are easily washable (very important) and easy to just flip down to nurse with…plus they are pretty inexpensive and comfortable.

Always try the bra on before buying it. And make sure you can unhook and re-hook the clasp (or whatever the closing mechanisim is) with one hand. also look for something that will help suport your ******. if your still early into breastfeeding your ****** may grow a bit more so you’ll want the extra suport!
I find motherhood maternity’s bra’s to be prety comfy and easy to use, Liz Lange (target) has come out with some as well but I havent tried theres.

You will need a comfortable nursing bra. You may need one during the day that holds you up right and one that is more comfy at night in order to sleep. I couldn’t go without a bra when i was nursing. The nursing bras have hooks around the actual cup area so you can unsnap and pull down without revealing to much. I know with my first i try using a regular bra and it was horrible but the nursing bras worked much better. All I had to do was unsnap, pull down the flap enough for baby to hook on then snap it back. Look at all the nursing bras and find one that has easy unsnap and good support without crushing your *******.

Comfort and easy access. Try the bra on just like you would any other bra. Make sure it fits and remember your bust size goes up and down due to changes in milk supply throughout the day. Also, make sure you can undo and re-fasten the hook one handed rather quickly. Hungry babies get very impatient if you’re taking to long to unhook your bra. Motherhood maternity has some nice ones. Also, depending on how much support you need, they have a sleep bra that you can just pull to the side when you need to nurse. I am small so I would wear it even during the day, they are sooo comfortable. Good luck.

I used one hot mama’s nursing tank tops. They are comfortable and you don’t feel like you are completely ***** when nursing because your stomach is still covered.

I bought some crappy WalMart nursing bras for those first few months. Basically I got sick of there not being enough support in them. So look for lots of support… So, I switched to wearing one of those bras that have the detachable straps so you can cross the straps in the back or make them go straight over the shoulders. I love it. I just unclick it (they click on, not hook on) and nurse my daughter. She plays with the strap, then I click it back on. I don’t know if this would be a good choice for nursing a newborn since they nurse so often, but it works for me. My daughter is now 9 1/2 months and she nurses just maybe 4 times during the day (although she still comfort nurses at night 4-6 times!!! But I don’t wear a bra to bed b/c I don’t leak any more! Yay!)
Oh one more thing. Don’t be afraid to try the bras on before you buy them. People might give you strange looks, but it’ll save you a headache in the longrun.

I’m in the same boat! I’ve been searching everywhere trying to find the most comfortable bra, and I found that trying the bras on at maternity stores vs. trying bras on at department stores is sooo much better! I found the BEST bra at Motherhood Maternity, and it’s actually their brand! You can feel comfortable looking around the bra section if your baby cries or you start leaking (or any other possible and common mommy dilemma!) because the staff is familiar with everything already. The bra I fell in love with has super wide shoulder straps, and while it’s not the sexiest bra I own, it is DEFINITELY the most comfortable. Seriously, take a trip to your local maternity store for a nursing bra…I guarantee you’ll fall in love with the easy shopping experience AND a new bra!

BTW…congrats on your little one and good luck with breastfeeding! :)
