Bottom line for me, the GREEDY nursing home owners need to pay their employees better money so that they can hire qualified non-trashy types. And they need to hire MORE employees to give provide better care. When I had the chance to care for ONE complete care patient, it made me feel like “this is the only correct way to properly care for a fellow human”. GREEDY nursing home owners need to PAY UP!!!

It outrages me to see and hear that a Lawyer says that she is OVER CHARGED . The Proof of outright ABUSE is in the Videos and here we have a Lawyer who is defending what has happened by saying she is Overworked. What a disgrace to the Profession.

I’m not going to say that this is right, but I do know from experience(I have been a Certified Nurses Asst. for 3 years) that working in a nursing home is a hard job. I worked at one nursing home where I had anywhere from 15-18 paitents to take care of by myself. I had 2 or 3 showers, vital signs, getting them all ready for dinner and then laying them all down after dinner. it’s a very very hard and stressful job. not anyone can do it. it takes a strong person.

She was the ONLY one on staff at night except for one lady who was hired by a family to sit with their mother. I was not on payroll,I did it because it needed to be done.Niether of us had finished high school yet but want to know the real shocker? We had the keys to the meds. and had to give them out.We even had the security code and were given permission to let our friends come in to see us!We worked there for about 2 weeks and quit. Not because it was too hard but because of the risk.

100% right about being under staffed. When I was 17,my best friend worked in a nursing home 3rd shift. There were about 30-40 pts.there and had to ring hand bells if they needed anything, not electronic buzzers. Some were unable to ring the bells so we had to walk the floor the whole night, changing linens because they had an accident, emptying colostomy bags before they exploded because the shift before failed to do it,putting double amputees on and off the potty chair. See next post please!

Oh,that poor single overworked mother! I guess it’s a good thing she is the only one in the world in that situation or we’d all be in a mess. If it was so bad and she really cared, she knew who to call and try to change things. What I’d like to know is were there any attempts to get more staff? Punishment to the max. Don’t slap them on the wrist and tell them no-no, not just the nursing staff but the higer ups, they are responsible for being short staffed but are often unaccountable for things!

Nobody cares for these people…not there family one bit or these people wouldn’t be in nursing homes.
Why keep someone in a nursing home? If it was there decision..it would probably rather be death.

People who neglect residents in nursing homes are horrible people.
If I have ever found one of these people…They would be the ones who would be dead.
Horrible people like that don’t deserve the lives they have…one day the world will learn to get rid of these kinds of people……pure evil.

Its very sad to see these clips but I think I agree with the majority of the people.
Looking at these video clips, I am sure most of the time good care was given.
Its typical to pick the bad apples from many of the good ones who are truly dedicated to there jobs. However, the one clip with the towel is unacceptable and I believe she should be removed.

Sounds to me like you need to find a new line of work. Health care is not for you.

very true, I do Housekeeping/laundry in a nursing home and the even the ones who don’t have alzhimers threaten to hit aides and such(and the aides do thier best to treat them all well)

Working as an aide in a nursing home is the hardest job I’ve ever had. What they don’t show you is the demented residents hitting and abusing the staff. Just today I was hit by an alzheimer’s patient while trying to help him use the toilet.

It is not fair to condemm the staff when staffing and skill mix levels are not in their control. A private business it is about making a profit and where do you think that is going to come from but in compromised patient care. I feel sorry for the patients but also for the staff who are expected to perform at a level that is impossible to achieve. Also the scene of the person using the lifter by themselves, I have done that! it is becasue there is no one around to help, and why they buy lifters!

Some nursing homes are better staffed than others. Instead of prosecuting the workers, they REALLY need to focus on the administration and the care giver-patient ratio. Keep in mind many of these patients are 300+ pounds and completely resistant to being turned. They are basically dead weight. ANd **** right in their beds because they are too lazy to roll over.

I don’t think top notch care is the concern, any care at all really. Like giving the patients their damn medication so they don’t die in their fucking sleep. Also, you act like this behavior is the excusable norm. MOST care facilities actually do their job just fine, not outstanding, but do acceptable at their care. so whats the excuse here? You can’t say that a city cop gets a pass for shooting a innocent bystander just because of stress? Its a life, you don’t avoid that kind of responsibility.

This is all medicare/medicaid excuses to not pay-too many patients, too few staff-what the **** do you expect? Under their guidelines you pretty much need one on one care. Children need to take their parent OUT of nursing homes and care for themselves SINCE THEY THINK THEY CAN DO A BETTER JOB! Or hire their own private duty nurse.

I hope you realize this is medicare’s excuse for not paying money under alleged “quality care” so more money can be diverted to the Iraq war. It is IMPOSSIBLE to meet those standards when you have too many patients. People need to hire private nurses-one on one care-if they can’t then SHUT THE **** UP. Or people need to get their parent OUT of the nursing home and take care of themselves since they think they can do better.

Nursing aids make minimum wage. They have far too many patients to care for. These patients bite, kick, scream, are dead weight, **** and **** all over the place, oftentimes too heavy to turn (literally), yet everybody expects top notch care with very little staff. I always say–If YOU want top quality care-YOU pay for a private nurse or take care of your parent YOURSELF-like I said, if children think they can do better-then take gramps or mom/dad out and care for him/her yourself.

yeah. IF they can do better. In the best of circumstance you have 2 parents, 1 to work and 1 to look after kids or grandparents. Lets say your a single mom, how are you going to work 2 jobs and care for some who needs constant attention on the hour every hour if your work 60+ hour weeks (Alzheimer patients usually try to escape, and can even be dangerous/traumatic to have around small kids) Sometimes the only alternative is to send them to homes and see them whenever possible.

If the workers were well paid, had a reasonable work load, reasonable hours and more respect for doing one of societies nastiest and hardest jobs, they might have a lot less reason to be frustrated, angry and become abusive.

Health care workers who are happy in their job is the best protection for the people in their care.

Those are jobs of last resort that people only take when they can get no other work. Many who are forced by circumstances to do them are angry, bitter and resent being there. They need to raise the salary and greatly increase staffing.

In one way, of course, these cameras are good. But, now it will be harder than ever to hire anyone to work in those places.
