The Nursing Shortage: A Crisis in America Healthcare 1 of 8
June 19th, 2007 | by nursing |gcwyatt asked:
This documentary takes a very honest, much needed look at the state of nursing in America. By interviewing doctors, hospital administrators, union representatives, members of the public and nurses themselves we get a complete picture of this severe and growing problem.
Produced and hosted by Paula Packwood MHA, RN, a health care professional with over 35 years of experience in the field. She has presented this video to politicians and policy makers in Sacramento and Washington DC.
Directed and edited by Greg Wyatt.
Originally aired on the now defunct Adelphia Channel in the fall of 2003.

I start nursing school in Jan. 2009, and I’m finding it to be VERY expensive. If more hospital offered stipends and scholarships to offset the cost of school, more students may be willing to pursue nursing as a career. And maybe so many nursing students wouldn’t drop out of nursing programs. It’s just too expensive. Plus the patient overload is a MESS!!!!! But there’s not much you can do about that being that the baby boomers are getting older.

We just don’t get paid enough for what we do, they expect so much from us.

Thanks for the kind words! I do enjoy helping and caring for others…I am just a little stress about the cost of the program and the fact that I am not a native English speaker..but I am also well aware that there’s also a shortage of Bilingual-nurses in the USA. I’ll try my hardest..if it doesn’t turn out to be what I am expecting I’ll probably move to Cuba and study medicine.

You made the right choice - don’t second guess yourself. Nursing is a rewarding and potentially profitable career. Do well in school and you’ll have your pick of great jobs! I wish there were more people like you choosing Nursing.

The nursing shortage is a myth. If there is a shortage why haven’t I found a job yet. Maybe there is a shortage of people hiring them.

Watch he rest of the videos in this series. It’s a real eye-opener. We got some great interviews with retired nurses that weren’t afraid to speak their minds.

Monitor tech. WHAT!! How does our CCU get that. ha ha We don’t even have a secretary or a nursing assistant. Or a supervisor sometimes. GEEZ? I wonder why nurses are quitting? But, I bet the CEO’s are getting paid real well.
