This question comes up a lot in mothering circles. Besides vitamins and lots of water, what is the best way to chase away a cold? And what medication is approved for nursing mothers. Symptoms include congestion and sore throat.
Kudos to all you nursing mommas, willing to go without medicine for the sake of your baby!!

Looks like Sudafed is the winner…

You can take Sudafed, but it doesn’t work much for me. I usually just wait out the colds. I miss the good ol’ days when I could swig some Ny-Quil and pass out for a few hours!

My doctor told me that Sudafed(plain) and Robitussin(plain) were acceptable to take. Benadryl and Claritin are ok, too(according to my doctor) but they are more for allergies and sinus problems. If all else fails call the doctor and they can prescribe something that might help better. I suffer from allergies and find that nothing that is “approved” to take helps though. So I’m stuck suffering through it until I can take my prescription meds again.

I was told cough drops are okay for a sore throat by my doctor, and for a stuffy nose I run a humidifier with vicks vapor stuff put in the water. Tylenol ( acetaminophen ) is good for the general aches and pains and is safe during pregnancy and nursing also.
